Design That Doesn't Look Like Tech
Lux starts with the assumption that a keypad is a fixture, not an afterthought. Faceplates come in premium metal finishes and up to 19 designer colors, so a keypad in a powder room can match its hardware rather than just tolerate it. They attach magnetically, too, which means a designer can swap a finish months after installation without an electrician re-opening the wall.
The buttons themselves are laser-engraved, so the icons and text stay crisp rather than fading into the worn plastic over the years. A small addition does a lot of quiet work: a built-in ambient light sensor reads the room and adjusts the keypad's own backlighting to match, so it's never the brightest thing in a dim room or invisible in a bright one.
Smart Universal Dimming
The Lux Universal Dimmer solves a problem installers have dealt with for years: matching the right dimmer to the right fixture. Its patent-pending dimming technology handles LEDs up to 600W alongside incandescent, halogen, and low-voltage transformer loads, so nobody has to guess or replace a dimmer down the road when you switch to different bulbs. The Lux Switch handles the loads dimmers shouldn't touch, like ceiling fans, bathroom exhaust fans, and high-inrush loads, such as fountain pumps.
The Lux Keypad combines a dimmer and a fully configurable keypad into a single device with up to 34 button layouts available, so a single plate next to the bed can dim the room, launch a scene, and arm security. Lux Outlets round things out with matching faceplates, so a kitchen backsplash or bathroom counter looks finished rather than mismatched. Every device in the lineup comes in both wired and wireless versions for simplified installation.
Scenes, App Control, and the Rest of the House
A single Lux keypad button rarely does just one thing. Press it, and it can dim the lights, lower the shades, and start a playlist at once—the kind of one-touch scene that makes a smart home feel effortless instead of like extra homework. The Control4 app extends that control to a phone or tablet, room by room or across the whole house, whether you're upstairs or pulling into the driveway.
Lux also integrates with Control4's Circadian and Vibrant lighting features, which shift color temperature throughout the day—cooler and brighter for focus, warmer for evenings. Great rooms with soaring, light-filled ceilings tend to have several lighting zones working at once, and that's exactly where a well-programmed scene earns its keep, turning a dozen separate switches into one button that just makes sense, setting whatever mood you desire.
Upgrading an Existing Control4 System?
There’s something to keep in mind if you're upgrading rather than starting fresh: wireless Lux devices require a Zigbee 3.0 network and aren't compatible with legacy Control4 Zigbee Pro systems. If your home was set up a few years ago, it could mean a network update is needed before Lux becomes an option. This isn’t a dealbreaker by any means, just something worth checking first. Wired Lux Keypads have their own requirement, needing Control4 OS 3.4.3 or newer.
