Explore Motorized Shading with Lutron
A Look at Lutron’s Triathlon, Sivoia QS, and Palladiom Lines
When you start exploring motorized shading for your Bountiful home, the questions pile up quickly. Can you wire them, or do you need wireless power? Do you want shades hidden in architectural pockets or showcased as design elements? What control system makes sense for both your lighting and shading? Lutron offers three distinct motorized shading solutions—Sivoia QS, Triathlon, and Palladiom—each engineered for different scenarios. With deep experience in Lutron lighting and shading solutions in Utah homes, we've learned a few things about how to match the right system to your specific situation.

Sivoia QS – The Comprehensive System
Sivoia QS is Lutron's professional-grade wired shading system, which handles virtually any window treatment imaginable: roller shades, drapery tracks, horizontal sheer blinds, Roman shades, wood blinds, and even tensioned systems for skylights and angled windows. The low-voltage wiring scheme simplifies installation during construction, and the system operates whisper-quiet, with a noise level of less than 44 decibels measured three feet away.
What sets Sivoia QS apart is precision and scale. Multiple shades move in perfect unison, maintaining alignment that would make a choreographer jealous. Need to cover a 20-foot window wall? Sivoia QS handles it with coupled shade systems. Want shades recessed into pockets for a completely clean ceiling line? That's where this system shines.
Sivoia QS integrates exclusively with Lutron's HomeWorks control system—their premium home automation system. It's built for new construction or major renovations where pre-wiring makes sense and you want ultimate flexibility.
Triathlon – Perfect for Retrofits
Triathlon solves the problem many projects face: what do you do when the walls are already closed up? This battery-powered system can be installed anywhere without requiring new wiring, making it ideal for existing homes where tearing into drywall isn't an option.
If you think you'll be constantly replacing batteries, think again. Battery life is an impressive three to five years on standard D-cell batteries, which you can buy anywhere. When it's time to replace them, the headrail simply tips forward for easy access. No shade removal is required, which matters more than you might think after living with motorized shading for a while.
Triathlon offers roller shades, insulating honeycomb shades, and wood blinds with automated tilt. The wood blinds feature Natural Light Optimization—they automatically adjust their angle throughout the day based on the sun's position, so you never touch them manually again.
For control, Triathlon works with Caséta (Lutron's entry-level system), RadioRA 3 (a very scalable mid-tier solution), and HomeWorks (suitable for large homes and estates). That makes it the only option that scales across all of Lutron’s control systems.
Palladiom – The Design Statement
While Sivoia QS and Triathlon typically hide behind fascias or in pockets, Palladiom takes the opposite approach—it's designed to be seen. The exposed brackets are hand-finished from solid aluminum or brass in seven different finishes, matching Palladiom's sculptural keypads and creating a cohesive design language throughout your home.
The engineering details matter here. Ultra-slim two-inch carbon fiber tubes keep the profile minimal. The bottom rail measures just three-eighths of an inch high and geometrically aligns with the shape of the bracket. When you raise the shade, that bottom rail disappears perfectly into the roll's negative space—it's the kind of detail that separates good design from exceptional design.
Palladiom operates nearly silently with Intelligent Hembar Alignment technology, which keeps shades synchronized within one-eighth of an inch. Available in both wired and wireless versions (the wireless runs three to five years on six D-cells), it works exclusively with HomeWorks and RadioRA 3 control systems.
Palladiom is the choice when shades become integral to the architecture rather than just accessories.
Making the Right Choice
Your control system often determines which shading option makes sense. Planning a simple Caséta solution? Triathlon is your only option. Going with RadioRA 3? Choose between Triathlon and Palladiom. HomeWorks opens all three possibilities, with Sivoia QS adding the most comprehensive window treatment options. Show and Tell AV can help match the right solution to your project, especially within the additional context of what you might want for lighting control and additional home automation options.
